The Future of American Soccer
The following is a three way discussion regarding the future of American soccer. It is basically a series of emails that we decided to make into a blog post. There is a lot discussed here so feel free to comment. Chris: I think a reason that soccer will never be a major sport on the level of football at least….no commercials. Nobody will every pay enough to put it in prime time with only 20 minutes of commercials at half time. No prime-time=less eyes=not a major... Read More
Lando Commando!!!!!
I figure an instant reaction to this amazing 1-0 victory would be appropriate. I’ve never seen a team work as hard on the offensive side yet fail to get that last touch in the net. I could go back and probably criticize certain players, but as a whole I thought the U.S. played a tremendous game. Jozy Altidore was all over the field, making runs, fielding crosses, creating opportunities for others. Although Clint Dempsey didn’t have his best game, his determination... Read More
Editorial Opinion on “Most Important Games of the Past Decade”
This is a brief piece in response to Jackson’s comment that the national championship games were clearly and obviously more important than any regular season game. First, I will only discuss the relationship between the 2003 national championship game and the 2003 Georgia football game. This is because in my opinion no logical argument can be made regarding the 2007 national championship game being more important than the 2003 UGA game. By 2007, LSU was a national powerhouse... Most Important Games of the Past Decade
Obviously narrowing down a list of 10 games during the greatest 10 year stretch in LSU football history is a tough task. Furthermore, because LSU’s golden era has arguably coincided with the greatest 10 year stretch in SEC history, there were so many memorable moments and heavy-weight clashes that I could easily have made a top 25 list. For our purposes, I tried to place an emphasis on significance. Often games seem extremely significant immediately after the fact (2007... Read More
Expanding the SEC
By this time next week, the college sports landscape may look radically different than it does today. In an efort to maximize their profit margins, The Big Ten and Pac-10 are poised to kick off the era of the 16 team superconference. While I’m personally skeptical of reviving this failed format, there are those that argue it would work much better now than it did in the 90’s. If and when the dominos begin to fall, the SEC should move quickly to fortify it’s position as... Read More
Introducing Your New Hornets Coach…….Monty Williams
Be honest. Did you know who this guy was before this week? Today, the Hornets officially announced their new head coach, Monty Williams. I, for one, had to do a double take when I first heard his name. To quote my roommate Jack, “I was seriously concerned that we had just hired Montel Williams.” While he and I may not admittedly be the foremost authorities on up and coming NBA coaches, I feel like we at least represent the knowledge of the majority of Hornets... Welcome to L.A.
UCLA's Jackie Robinson Stadium seats a whopping 1,250 people! The LSU baseball team just completed an amazing run through the SEC Tournament as an 8 seed, capping the weekend off with a 4-3 extra innings win against Alabama in the championship game. Their prize: a trip all the way across the country to Los Angeles to play in what is arguably the toughest regional matchup in college baseball. The four team grouping is the only regional containing three Baseball America... Read More
2010 NBA Finals Preview – Boston vs. Los Angeles
The NBA Finals matchup between the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers is a familiar sight for basketball fans. The two teams have a storied and long lasting rivalry, from the Jerry West – Bill Russell battles of the 60’s to the Magic/Kareem – Bird matchups in the 80’s. The most recent meeting between the two teams came in 2008 when the newly revived Celtics defeated the Lakers in six games. This year’s matchup features an underdog Celtics team who heated...
